| I have been trying to decide which to buy, a BMW650GS or V-STrom 650 or Motoguzzi Breva 750. I have only ever ridden my son's and husband's dirt bikes just fooling around. I am 5'8 and 145lbs and want to tour and commute to work (hopefully)about 40 min one way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, from comfort, handling,to resale, etc. Thanks,Wanda

| Dear Wanda,
I am male, 50+, about 185 lbs (this is not a personal ad, just trying to give you some ergonomic perspective). Rode rain or shine for years, but about 30 years ago, nothing since then, other than neck/back problems. However, wanting to get back into bikes (mid-life/career crisis).
All the research I've done is between the BMW and Strom, as I don't like the Breva's looks and won't pay that money for a 750. Visited several dealers, talked to friends, etc.
Consensus so far is that Strom is the better bike/value, and is likely a bike that you would outgrow more slowly, if at all. Ergonomics are likely somewhat better. The counterpoints to me are that I like the BMW looks better and, well, it's a BMW, if only a single cylinder thumper.
Good luck,
Lou

| | As a counterpoint, you need to sit on the bikes. The V-Strom has a larger frame but a better engine and wind protection. The BMW will get more nice bike comments and hold its value well but the V-Strom is much cheaper. You can't go wrong with either bike, it's more a matter of personal preference. |
