Im having problems with my 650 h1 when I go into water or a mud hole to fast it wants to cut out. One time it shut off and the water is not even above the tire the dealer said it was my air intake sucking the water in to my air filter. Does all these bikes have this troblem ? and what can I do to stop this? ah yea I dont want to buy a snorkel kit if I dont have to.

I had mine up in Alabama going through creek beds and deep water pretty fast. I never had any problems stalling at all. I would look at your intake hose or clamps I have the SE and have had it up to the front head lights under water and still plowed through mud and water

Yea, I have this same problem on the 400. The damn intake sits just above my oil cooler. I know the 650 is liquid cooled but I think everything else is basically the same.

Me and my brother have both had this problem. My brother actually blew his engine due to it. Both of us have now snorkelled as suggested by his dealership.

Your air intake sits at the same level as the bottom of your glove compartment below the handle bars. Removing the glove compartment will give you a good view of the intakes. A good rule of thumb is if the water starts to rise over the front rack of the atv you've gone too deep and are in trouble. Keep the water level below the yellow side marker of your front wheel-wells.
If it's cutting out like you say it is there are a few things you can check: 1) Make sure your spark plug is not taking on water.
2) Check to make sure your air intake seals well around it's fittings.

As long as you keep your air intake above the water level and maintain a consistant speed when treading through deeper water, you'll be fine. Also note: when in deeper water...keep your bike running, or water will flow into your engine through the exhaust.

P.S. These Cats don't float! Sink or Swim mang!

I have been through some scary deep water with my bike, lean back if you have to to keep the front afloat. It's fun, just be diligent and don't get in over your head...literally.

Also, are all of your splash guards in place? the way the air intakes are positioned and with the splash guards in palce, I find it hard to believe that it's your air intake thats taking on water, especialy if the water/mud level is not going above your wheels.

Is you machine bogging out or just cutting off? If it's bogging out and you're not getting water in the intake, which I believe because my friend's just did the same thing. After disassembling his entire machine, I came to a conclusion that the transmission vent was under water and not just water, I'm talking about very soupy muddy water. I think that the transmission filled up with water causing the bike to bog out and eventually die. Make sure you open the drain plug on the transmission casing after you've gone through deep water and mud. Another problem would be and electrical problem somewhere. Water and electric stuff doesn't mix well. Make sure that your spark plug insulator is snug and well in place.

Before I added mods (snorks, exaust, etc.) I all but submerged my bike. (was submerged - which led to the mods) before it would shut off or bog down.

Not saying that all bikes are this way - just my experience. When you say shut off, do you mean as if you turned the key off? or it stumbled and then shut down? Very diff. set of examples and narrowing it would help.
