My son owns a Yamaha XLT 1200. Engine runs great but no thrust out of the hole cannot plane out. Engine at this point is at high RPM's (sreaming). Have replaced Impeller and problem still exists? Any suggestions, as local distributor/machanic at a loss.

Let's think about it this way.. The engine is screaming, so you know it's not a lack of power... it sounds as if the jet pump is still cavitating badly... Ask your mechanic if he replaced the "wear ring" when he replaced the impeller.. it's a small ring that's almost a perfect fit around the impeller. When you suck up dirt, sand, etc it eats up the wear ring first, causing the water to flow around the edge of the impeller rather than through it (cavitation)

We are having a similar problem and we have a porous hole in the cylinder that the impeller runs in. This hole is in the rear left side while looking from the rear. This causes enough cavitiation to act as your machine is. Check for porou casting. Have you solved your problem yet? BP
