When I run the ST below 3K rpm in traffic, I can hear a disconcerting slapping noise coming from the engine. This seems to happen only when the engine's fairly high up in the temperature range. Anyone else experience this and/or have any ideas on where the sound originates? Thanks -

I have a 2001 ST, 20000 km, and have a similar problem, on disection of oil filter and droping oil pan i found fine metal filings (very front of pan ) suspect faulty oil pump chain. will look at replacing - I'll keep you posted

I have noticed the same noise on my '93 ST. I have no idea where it originates but my mechanic ensures me it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your replies, guys - hope your crankcase noises continue to be nothing serious. I'm still riding with the sounds and am hoping for the best.

My Pan has done 83k miles and had the same noise for 2 reasons: - 1. Oil pump drive chain. 2.The clutch release bearing. Both jobs done at the same time.
