The best thing to do it get a VIN number on a Bandit and call your insurance company for a quote. With the VIN number your quote will be more accurate than just calling with the make and model.
I've heard this bike is not quite considered a sport bike. Check it out!

To answer your questions in order:
1-yes
2-about 160-175
3-sporty, not as expensive as GSX-R, but more than SV650
4- in my case, $60/month full coverage

I do a few +400 mile trips every year. Mine has been piped and jetted (38-40mpg); 130 miles to reserve. $230/ year full coverage. ('97 B12 28,000 miles of grins!)

I just finished a 2,500 mile loop from Seattle to (and around) Central California and my 2003 Bandit proved to be rock solid, trouble free and a very capable tourer! The final day included a 902 mile run back home so I could be back at work. I generally managed around 190 miles to reserve. The bike is not particularly expensive to insure compared to "pure" sportbikes. Yes I hurt after the 15 hour run, but not as badly as on other bikes, the seat needs work, but the seating position is nigh on perfect. I have three herniated/degenerating discs in my spine and my back did not hurt! My legs and rear were a different story.

On the highway, averaging between 70-100, I get about 170 miles to reserve. On smaller two lane roads, averaging 50-80, I get about 210 to reserve.

Insurance considers it a standard (ha!). I pay $272 a year.

HI, I AVERAGE AROUND 40MPG AND HIT MY RESERVE AROUND 200 MILES AT 80 MPH. I TRIED GEICO AND PROGRESSIVE FOR INSURANCE AND PROGRESSIVE WAS CHEAPER. MY YEARLY INSURANCE IS: $272.00 WITH PROGRESSIVE AND GEICO WANTED $303.00 FOR LESS INSURANCE. MY INSURER RATES THIS BIKE AS A STANDARD TYPE, WHICH IS GREAT! NOTE: MY MOTORCYCLE IS A 2001 1200 BANDIT/S.
