It is similar to the US' UL Listing or Canada's CSA listing. The difference is that UL and CSA are mainly electrical and fire certifications, whereas CE covers all safety aspects of the device or machine. Any product shipped into Europe must be CE certified. You will find CE marking on anything from a toy doll to a toaster to a TV as well as industrial equipment.
