My wife has a 2005 RS Rage, it only has about 60 miles on it. The one problem I have with it is that after it warms-up, it sqeals like a tea kettle. It stops compleatly when it's moveing, and for a few secounds when the brake is released. Also when you sit on it or rock it. It's still under waranty but I don't want to take it to the shop unless it's nessasary. Anyone got any ideas as to whats causeinjg to make this noise?

I have the same thing. After initial start up With 0 miles on the odometer It developed a slight sqeal. I never noticed it during the whole 2 miles I put on it this year. I passed it off as needing to be broken in. After adding stabilizer to the fuel, I started it and let it run for exactly 10 minutes, occationaly speeding up the engine. At about the 5-6 minute mark Inoticed the squeal once again, only this time it grew worse to the "tea kettle" noise that you described. The temp light never came on but I think It was getting close. Engine speed did not seem to effect it, although I was tied to my trailer so I did not actually ride it. I was thinking that it sounded like valve of some sort to control the cooling system, such as the thermostat etc.. When your riding you may not hear it as the sled is running cooler and/or there are too many other noises. The only other possibility would be the drive belt. I have spoken to two bona fied Yamaha Mehanics (one of which is is an aquaitence of mine) and they both said they had heard or seen nothing concerning a squealing noise. I called the mechanics more for peace of mind than anything, as four stroke sleds are new for me and they have a whole new set of sounds to listen for. I am just waiting for next year to get some miles on the sled and see what it does. If it gets any worse I may use an auto stethoscope to pin point the noise. I figure I have all next season with it still under warranty so why worry about it now. Besides, It's Bike season.
That's the best that I can offer. If anyone else has smething more I would be happy to hear it.

I have heard this same sound with my rage. After lifting the cowl I found that it's the drive belt rubbing on the clutch. it seems to be no big deal, but it does earitate.

The squealing problem can be a couple of different things, idle speed to high comes to mind first, clutch not adjusted correctly or defective clutch.

There currently are three recalls on these sleds. I have two of these sleds and have not had any problem with them. OK I did with the one that's how I found out about the recalls

1. clutch assembly recall
2. spark igniter recall. Causes the sled to shut down or loose all power, the sled will not move when this happens.
3.Main drive shaft of secondary clutch recall.

Talk to your dealers they are all free, no charge for installation or parts.
