Does everyone suggest a magnetic tank protector or a vinyl one? I like the 1/2 tank covers from Targa, but I'm concerned about the dust, etc. wearing the paint under it.

If you are looking for something to protect your tank while using a tankbag, go to www.coolcycle.com and get one of their vinyl saddlebag shields. You can cut it for your tank, put it on when you use it and remove it when done. I use one for my 01 VFR and it is great! For a tank protector pad there is one I have specifically saying VFR and in the exact color at www.rocketsportbike.com or wwww.planetsuperbike.com, I can't remember which one.

It is Rocketsportbike and it doesn't show the tank pad on their website. Email them and ask.

Slightly related to subject question. For neat, non-scratching tank bag. I bought a tankbag at the following.
http://www.luggagelocker.com/. Small company, but great product. Boa
