| I just got my Burgman 650 after riding Goldwings most of my adult life. I was very happy the power and smooth ride of the Burgman. My question is this ..has any one taken this scooter on a long ride (500mi +)and if so what was your avg. speed on the hi-way?

| My Burgy kept up with any traffic on the Superstition Freeway when I went up there for business. The Burgman performs much better after 1000mi ODO after 1st service and especially more powerful after 2nd fluids change (1800+ ODO). I took I-10 up to Mesa then returned via Globe south 77 to try it out after brake-in in July. My latest trip yielded excellent cornering through Salt River Canyon, though I slowed for possible loose rocks at curves at 6am as I was only one on that stretch. My 750 Nighthawk could not have come close, even with fresh tires to compare the cornering of the Battlax radials on the Burgy. Usually there is a slight loss of grip near sidewall steep angle cornering but my Burgy never complained at double the warning sign posted speeds. Wind noise from stock shield required foam earplugs on 12hr. trip but great thing about them is 80mph starightaways without ear stress. Burgy will want 4900rpm to do 79mph with no sweat additional torque availability. This is my first bike that does Not become less stable in handling at 75+mph. At high speeds, gyroscopic forces are minority factor with these nice light wheels. No wonder Suzuki didn't bother with ABS like Honda's Silverwing. Rain riding has been predictable with no "funny" feel.
75mph has been a good average speed outside towns and cities. High miles per gallon calculations have been dependent on engine speeds though (<4000rpm average is better). I've been using Manual transmission mode extensively on mountain highway climbing/passing while with packs of other vehicles. Power mode most effectively used from dead stop only. Switching to Manual 5 mode then releasing throttle when exiting off of highway slows Burgy down smoother and slower than 'D' Mode grabby feel.

| I just returned from Knoxville, TN area. Approximately 475 each way. Average speed was 70 mph. Did great. Lots of reserve power. Averaged 50 mpg with Givi windshield and trunk.

| I rode mine to Florida from North Georgia the first of June. I rode 75-85 most of the time on the interstate and still got around 50 mpg. In one day I rode 540 miles and was no more worn out than on any other motorcycle I have ridden that far. The seat is very comfortable. However, you will need a full face helmet or a face shield for protection if it rains.

| I own a Burgman with roughly 11000 miles on it. In August I went on a 4600 mile trip and loved it. I have a Givi w/shield (way better) and trunk and I made a bag that fits between the trunk and me. I averaged 45 miles a gallon. Would recommend.

| | I purchased my AN650 with 3500 miles on the clock and rode it home (600 miles in an afternoon and a morning at speeds ranging from 55 to 85. It is a stable platform, moreso than many conventional motorcycles. |
