We're having difficulty diagnosing a problem with accelerating our daughter's 80 Raptor. It will idle fine, so we tried cleaning and changing the gaskets on the carb but no go. When given gas, the motor sputters. Any thoughts?

Before you do drastic things try the simple things like cleaning the air filter, see if the choke is on, spark plug clean.
If that does not work it could be that you may have the same problem we did when we first bought the raptor. The carburator jets were no clean and on top of that there was damage to the carburator from one of the screws that allowed too much air in. Fortunately the carburator did not need to be replace but a bit of retapping was done. This was done by the dealer under warranty. I hope this helps.
