I have not had any problems with starting in cold weather, just but the choke on, and stand on the footbrake, and push the start button, it should start up and then u just have to slowly give it gas to let it warm up, then turn the choke off and ur ready to go. Whenever i go down hills or go fast and just let go of the throttle i have noticed some backfires but it hasnt been a problem to me.

Get rid of the throttle switch by jumpering it out at the first connection plug and see if your problem goes away. If that fixes it maybe you could fine tune the adjustment or leave it bypassed like mine. My Phoenix has been in the shop more than I have ridden it!

Backfire is common when youre decellerating and for the cold start if you can get it started once just start revvin the hell out of it itll warm up in a minute!

My 2005 Phoenix is sputtering at high RPM's. DId you ever have the problem? The jumpering of the switch...is that the 2-wire connector whihc goes into the throttle assembly on the handlebars?

I have just imported 3 Phoenix quads from Holland, 2 of them start with no problems but 1 of them, I can get an ignition light but the quad will not start when I pull the switch, it does nothing, when I turn the lights on with the ignition key, I only get sidelights, and with the ignition on the indicators, horn or the hazards do not work, the battery is brand new.....any ideas??
