I have an 04 and an 05 Rhino. As we hit approx. 200 miles on each the rear differential started to sound like it was comming apart when we applied the brakes. Loud gear to gear pot metal sounds. Accelerating and compression is normal. I believe with the location of the rear disc on the driveshaft that the braking force is going throught the differential and it is chattering. Is this normal ?

Locktite hints,,, the nut holding the shift linkage on to the engine as well as the rear torsion bar attach nuts that are captive but do not pull any threads through the end of the nut.

Bonus question.. Any good solution to stopping the heat shield rattle under the dump box from occuring?

I don't have an answer only to tell you that I have the same problem in an 04 Rhino. I have taken it in three times to have it checked and the dealership doesn't have a clue only to tell me now that it is normal sound! They first told me it was the brakes and they replaced them but didn't fix problem. I thought it was the rear diff but after coasting it down a hill with the passenger seat off and engine off, I could hear it really grinding away when applying the brake. Problem is only worse if you have it in 4WD. took it back to the dealership and let the service man ride and listen and he didn't now what it was but told me not to worry about it! I swear it sounds like the gears are tearing apart. We only notice it when we are going down an incline while applying brakes.

Have you had any luck getting the problem fixed?

Spray it or roll it with some Rhino lining or any other bed liner material...
