| Just purchased a 2000 VFR with both a K&N air filter and a Two Brothers slip on Carbon muffler. The question is, do I have to worry about the standard settings in the EFI chip or must I get a Power Commander with custom mapping?

| The EFI on bikes works the same as on a car. Various sensors tell the EFI computer how much air and fuel to send to the engine. All you have to do is disconnect the battery for 30 seconds or so and reconnect. When you start the bike, the EFI computer will run through its routine. The sensors on the engine do not know that there is a new muffler or air filter, they only know that more air is flowing. The EFI computer will increase the fuel flow to match. Two Bros web site addresses this topic and very clearly states that a power commander is not necessary.
I have a 2000 VFR800 with a Two Bros Titanium pipe and a K&N filter. I picked up probably 5 or 6 HP. The biggest difference is the weight savings. The boat anchor that Honda puts on the bike standard weighs more than 10 pounds and is ugly as sin. The Two Bros C-4 Titanium pipe weighs about 4 pounds and looks great.
If I were in your shoes, I definitely would not buy the Power Commander. You might get 4 or 5 more HP, but they cost almost $400 (which is why I don't have one). Your bike should sound great with the pipe and filter, and if you want absolute performance you probably should shop around for a CBR/GSX-R, etc...
