I am thinking about purchasing my first motorcycle. I've been told that I would need at least a 500cc bike if I use it to comute 26 mile to work (15 mile) highway. Does the Honda Rebel provide enough power to pass slower traffic on the highway? Let's say the speed limit is 65 and the car in front of me is going 60. Would it be a strain to pass?

I rode my 2005 Rebel 300 miles yesterday. 2 lane, 4 lane and Interstate. Hills curves and flat. Never had the first bit of trouble passing or keeping it at 70 mph on Interstate. At 75 mpg I do not mind not haveing a huge amount of zip! Gets me where I want to go and does a fine job.

It has enough power to handle highway speeds in flat country, but don't expect any burst of speed for passing.

Usually I don't have a proble passing unless it is uphill or in a very short passing zone.

No problems at all. It does not blow the other car away, but it does so with reasonable power and will keep you from trying to do something stupid.

I regularly do a commute the same distance on a 70cc Honda Passport, that top speeds at about 43.

If the traffic in front of you is going 5 miles slower than you planned on then you don't even NEED to pass them. Even if you are "stuck" behind them the entire 15 miles it will add a big 75 seconds to the duration of that 15 mile trip.

And don't worry, before that 15 miles is up I am sure you will find a way to squeeze around them and regain a portion of those 75 seconds.
