I've ridden dirt bikes and 3 & 4 wheelers as a kid (teenager) and after years of being w/o a bike (now I'm 30) I'm wanting to know if this (99 CBR900RR) would be a bike recommended for a newbie to sportbikes?? I want it for weekend ridding, crusing into work on nice days, but no stunting or any other life threatening manuevers. I know most might say a 600 may do the trick but I am 6' 290lbs and have the strangest feeling that a 600 anything, and possibly a 750 may not make me feel like I have enough bike under me. And it may not be that good for my wife ridding on the passenger seat. So is this just too much bike for a newbie (Also, I will be taking safety classes to refresh myself).

Thanks in advance . . .

your in the exact same position i was, i had only ridden off road vehicles since i was like 7, at first i thought this would be too much bike for a newbie to sports bikes. but i must say that its a great bike to learn on yet it has alot of power and can hit speeds of 230-240, for me anyway..i weigh like 210.ive been told by other guys that theyve seen them go 260+. this bike is very easy to control and it riders extremely smooth. though..once you get more accustomed to riding you might want a little more horsepower since stock it comes in at a "Whopping" ( note my sarcasm) 107 horses. though i have not yet done this i would definetly recommend performance exhaust, akrapovic if moneys no issue, if it is just go for yoshi, or muzzo( i think i said that right). jet kit for sure k&n filters, just stuff like that to get a little more kick. i DEFINETLY recommend this bike!!!!!!!!! as i will never get rid of it....
