| | I just got a 2005 KLX 300, but I did a lot of research on the CRF 250r and the CRF 250 X. The Hondas are without a doubt much faster than the KLX. They require much more maintainence becuase the bike has separate oil resevoirs for the engine and transmission. This means much more oil changes and the maintainence is harder to do because the engine is much more cramped in by the beefy alluminum frame. The KLX is easier to maintain because it, like most bikes, shares oil between the engine and gears. The KLX is slower because it was mainly designed to be used as a recreational bike, so it's exhaust and intake are heavily restricted. The bike with stock exhaust is very quiet, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on where you ride. So I guess the answer to your question is that neither bike is more reliable and faster than the other. The KLX is what you want if you want a reliable fun bike, the Honda is for you if you want performance. |

| | Pretty much goes like this: Faster / lighter bike is more $$ and needs more maintainence (CRF250R), Slower / heavier bike is much cheaper $$ and needs squat all maintainence (KLX300). I've got a KLX300 with a few mods and it goes fine, but then I'm just mucking around on trails and stuff. KLX is not a racing machine... |

| I do not know much or anything about the CRF however the KLX responds incredibly well to modifications.

| CRF is just a little faster the the KLX because my dad has the CRF and I have the KLX. The KLX is designed for low end muscle but makes up for that by having a 6 speed trans. As far as lighter both bikes are ALOMST the same weight. The KLX is about 8 pounds lighter. But the KLXr is probably alittle lighter without the electric start. The KLX can survive a nuclear strike as far as realiability. The CRF requires VERY VERY close regulation of oil, due to the fact that the resorvior is so small and it burns so much. My friend fried his CRF after 110 miles buring all his oil off. I Like the KLX much more due to the fact that it dosn't act like a 2 stroke like the CRF.But the KLX requires small mods to get the restricted power.

| I can tell you first hand there is NO comparison. I recently bought the 2006 KLX300R and I (thought) I liked it quite a bit. But yesterday I rode my friend's new CRF250R and it's a freakin' rocket! When I got back on mine, it felt like a slug.
