| I'm in my early 40's and am thinking about getting my first motorcycle. Would the Rune be too much bike for me to handle? I'm 6' and weigh about 200.

| Hey Jerry. I'm 34 and going into my fourth season of riding. Also am 6' tall and around 210 pounds. In my own opinion, the Rune is definitely too much machine for a first bike; honestly, I think it's quite a bit for myself, even having about 15k miles of riding experience. I'm actually riding a 2001 Valkyrie Standard (the Rune's 1520cc predecessor). This suits me fine at about 750 pounds fully fueled, though I needed to get a few years of experience before riding it. When I started, I got a 1996 Kawasaki Eliminator (600cc--450 lbs wet), then moved up to a 2002 BMW R1150R (1130cc--525 lbs wet) before trading up to the Valkyrie. It's definitely something to get used to, but once you're on good terms with it, it's a terrific machine.
In essence, everyone has their own comfort level. The majority of us are better off starting smaller and moving up to the bigger machines after getting a couple years of riding under our belts. However, there are people who can start with the big ones right away and feel okay. The BMW functions as a first bike very well although it's a bit top-heavy. I've also written reviews on all my bikes at this website (the Kawasaki is listed under the 1997 models, as I recall, and the BMW & Honda are listed under their respective model year headings). I'd check out the reviews of the different Japanese, H-D, Triumph, and BMW models. And by all means, stop at your nearest dealer(s) and pick their brains for what bikes might best suit you. Good luck!

| The Rune is an 800 lb piece of fast machinery. While I go by the creed of "no matter how big the scoot, you have the control of how much throttle you give in your right hand", but if you're just starting out? try the VTX1300R,while it's not a Rune,it does have solid and relitively big inch engine, it's lighter and a lot less expensive. When I first started riding(1980),I was using my friends Honda CB1000 Custom and I took my endorsement test on it a month later with no problem. Take your time when you go to make a purchase and most of all, remember who's in control when riding your new scoot...ie:YOU and don't let the scoot you choose rule you. Take it by the handlebars and conquor it!

| No problem. You can ride anything out there. A matter of getting the feel for it is all it takes. If you were already riding a comparable bike you'd still have to get use to any other in the same class. By now you probably have one. What did you choose? I wish I would have just went to something with a trunk from the get go but I also thought like you then. For what it's worth.
