| | I'm thinking of getting the Vulcan 800 (the "basic" model), but the salesman at one Kaw place told me the skinny front tire isn't so great on freeways. Any opinions on this? (I like this version because it's light, and I'm a rank beginner). Thanks in advance. |

| I bought a new 2004 Vulcan 800A in December(the basic model)and really love it. I shopped around for about a year before buying this bike. One of my major concerns was that skinny front tire. I love the looks, but how would it perform. Some people will tell you that it has a tendancy to move around a bit in the groove, but I haven't had much problem with that. I find it to be a well mannered bike, expecially when you get it moving down the road. My concerns about that "skinny front tire," are no more. I have complete confidence in this machine. I would suggest an after market seat though. The one they have on it is a butt killer. That goes for the classic model too. If this is the look you want, then I think you'll really enjoy this bike. I already have nearly 2,000 miles on mine and can't seem to get enough. Enjoy the ride.

| I ride this and an 1800 nomad. The nomad is excellent on the highway, and crap on the rolling back roads/hills of vermont and new hampshire..it's not nimble enough. The Vulcan 800 is sweet on the back roads and ok for short hour bursts on the highway...but not enough at the top to make it relaxing...I do think the wider tire is a plus when you hit uneven pavement going 75 mph. You really need to balance your ability, and typical terrain and ride time. The 800 is pretty nimble where the nomad is not. I would not recommend the nomad however to a beginner. You really need to ride some to decide what you want.

| I just purchased a Vulcan 800 and the not only skinny, but larger front tire gave me a better ability to handle the bike. Being a beginner, the vulcan fron tire is a plus. Sit on a Classic and Drifter and you'll fell less balanced than the VN800. I love mine!

| Most likley to late but take a look at the 800 clasic (wider tire.) You well want to change alot on this bike (SEAT REAL BAD FOR LONG RIDES)Your dealer is right bad ride on freeway. For the money and a better ride go with the 1600. In the end it is what you well want. Just be carefull where you buy it at.
