| | Now that you have had the ST3 for a couple of months, are you still as happy. I ask this because of a slightly negitive motorcycle mag review. Is the seat good enough to sit in for a long trip? And finally as a tall 6'3" rider, would a long trip wear me out? |

| | I believe the setup on this bike is "tricky." I have read on other websites about riders experiencing issues with the engine. Basically, I would just make sure the bike runs well before purchasing by arranging a test ride. The dealer had to redo the setup on mine before I test drove it. The mechanic spent two days on it. I don't know if it's a training issue or what. Nevertheless, he got it right. |

| | all, I've had almost 2000 high speed and trouble free miles on my ST3 to date. my only complaint- not enough riding time. |

| | I bought an 2005 ST3 three weeks ago, without really reading too much about it, riding it or sitting on it. I like to think I know what I'm buying before I buy, so I don't need to do any of those things to any great extent. I'm at a point in my motorcycling experience, that I really don't care what the reviews say all that much. I've read far too many not to know that you can get the exact opposite opinions about the same bike from two diferent reviewers, and that eventually, the new kid on the block becomes the old kid on the block. And besides, when's the last time you read a review about actually living with a bike? There mostly based on short rides. All that being said, the ST3 does not make huge power, but it's plenty powerfull and trust me, fast enought to thrill you. It has a short wheel base compared to other ST's, and the ride is harsh in comparison, unless you have the suspension turned to soft, then it pitches when on the brake/throttle. You'll have to find your sweet spot through trial and error. I did, and am very happy now that the suspension's set up to my liking and I'm use to it. I mean, it's still a Ducati, and comfort is not what I was after. The bike sucks in town for comfort, but is very comfortable on the open road, with the best stock saddle my butt's ever sat on. No need to talk about the handling, you've read enough about Ducati handling; it's all true. Brakes and head lamp are brilliant; bags are big enough for a medium Shoei, and are easy on/off. I have a 31.5" inseam, and find the seat to peg relationship comfortable for tank-long rides, ie 180-200 miles. I've done two and three tank days, with stops, and was a little stiff at the end of the day. The bars are a little lower than I thought, and there's more weight on my wrists than I thought, but it's still comfortable for me all around. Screw the magazine reviews, and buy what you like. I had a very negative experience with the sweetheart of the ST scene a few years ago: great reviews from all the mags. That model bike has major engine problems that the magazines don't tell you about. |
