| I'm looking at the Vulcan 2000 and VTX1800N to replace my 99 Roadking Classic.
Any advice or suggestions?
I love my Roadking (22k miles)but am concerned with reliability and getting stuck out on the highway. Most of my rides 2-up are 200 to 325 miles.

| I had a tough time choosing between the VTX1800R and the VN2000. Chose Kawi. The VTX is proven and comfortable. The Vulcan is still being refined and the stock passenger seat is hard. They do have afters (Corbin and Mustang) and Kawi makes a replacement. I have had an issue with my Vulcan (read my review) but seems OK now. Quick rundown - VTX is proven (buy a 2003 now and get $1000 in accy) Vulcan is new but beefy and rides smother than a Harley but does have belt drive.

| I owned the Nomad 1500 FI, with 8000 miles, and the 2000 is very similar, type in Harley road king, and you will see one of the sites that do a comparrison between the road king, Nomad, and Honda Valryke, extremely good article.

| I've got to tell you GO WITH THE VULCAN 2000. Test drive them both and you will see why I say this.

| I just bought a 2004 vn2000. I am a very large boy (6-8 350) the vulcan handles this load with absolutely no problem. I would suggest a new seat if you ride a lot. the stock seat looks really cool, but it is kind of hard and shaped weird. I am tall and my big butt pushes against the back kind of hard and butt burn is a factor after about 30 miles. My bike shifts kind of clunky also. Maybe because it is new. Handling is heavy at low speeds but you get used to it. At speed it is stable and pretty smooth. Finally, there is the power. Lord have mercy the power. Instant arm straightening torque is there any time any speed. Be aimed where you want to be when you crank the go handle. 20 mph acceleration is almost instantaneous without shifting. Ask the dealer to show you how to check the oil. It is VERY sensitve to overfilling and it is easier to make this mistake than you can ever imagine.

| I had a similar dilemma...V2K or VTX...four factors drove me to Kaw...lower maintenance on the Kaw (no valve adjustment)...single crankpin on the Kaw (better potato-potato)...and my experience with my Kaw 1500 Classic (superb reliability), and the Limited (just different than anyone else).

| Get the HONDA. All the good things I bragged about in my earlier response are offset by that chirping sound from the belt that the dealer can't/ won't fix.

| | Get the Honda. The Vulcan has gobs of power AND a bunch of bugs and design flaws to go with it. I have the Vulcan and have ridden the Honda. Get the Honda. |
