THE CRANKCASE HAS TWO CHAMBERS IN IT AND SO IT IS EASY TO OVERFILL. YOU SHOULD START ENGINE AND LET IDLE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN SHUT OFF AND WITH BIKE SITTING UPRIGHT CHECK LEVEL ON DIPSTICK. WHEN YOU DRAIN THE OIL THERE ARE TWO DRAIN PLUGS AND MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL FIVE QUARTS OUT OF IT OR YOU WILL OVERFILL IT WHEN YOU PUT FIVE QUARTS BACK IN. MINE HAS NOT USED ANY OIL IN 1000 MILES! DON'T OVERFILL IT!!!!

The blowby oil could be overfill. If there is no oil showing after 5 quarts there is a problem. Are you checking the oil while the bike is raised to the riding position? Set a brick or a couple of 2x4's under the stand or have some one sit on it for you.

The bike actually has three drain plugs, two in the oil pan and one in the clutch. Two o-rings and a oil drain plug gasket. 5 qts w/filter change, seems to work just fine. The bike will blow oil out the air-filter if overfilled.

you overfilled it. Just like everyone else who checked the oil and thought they were bringing the level up to full. Bad design on the DIPSTICK? That would explain all the other bugs the VN2000 has, now doesn't it?

This also happened to me when I changed air filters over to the K&N aftermarket filter...thought the bike was leaking oil until I found the source of the leak and it was coming from the air cleaner and specifically off the K&N which has a coating of oil on it.
