For $19,000 to $21,000 you may buy a new Harley Davidson and enjoy an engine too hot to sit on and a fifth gear that sounds like baseball cards on your spokes.

Pinging and surging are the bonus benefits topped with a company that not only ignores the problems and customer complaints but instructs their dealers to do the same.

HOWEVER they just happen to have a $1,400 fix you may buy along with a more comfortable seat and maybe a tach, and an oil cooler. For just $2,500 you should be on your way!

Before you buy just take a look at what this years JD Power report says about our beloved American Motorcycle Company...

Here is what the customers experience when they ask Harley-Davidson for help with thier $20,000 motorcycle!

If you read the rest of the coolclimbing website that you have listed you will find that Harley Started issuing a re map of the computer that according to those who have had it done, has resolved most of the overheating and surging issues.

My husband & I just bought two HD's....2007's ...Ultra Classic & Heritage Softail....

The tail at 300 miles, bit the bullet and changed the oil to SYN, had them change out the pipes to Screaming Eagles, Stage 1 & remapping. The bike is a dream! No clinking, never did, but no heat problems now...cost a few bucks, service was great at HD in Crystal River, Fl. I love the ride, sounds pretty good too. I have a 04 VTX 1300 w/warranty till 09 for sale now!

Hubby is enjoying his ride & may change out his pipes for same at his 1000 mi check-up. Has 500 miles & doesn't have any clanking noises in 5th that bother him.....it's all just breaking in.

The remap shuts down the rear cylinder when at stop lights - Really not a good fix, lots a people had it done and then reverted back to the original map, which HD allows one time. My wife has an 08 Heritage and is hot, hot, hot, burned her right leg really bad and now she won't even ride it any more. All this is EPA mumbo jumbo, really not HD's fault, but then again we didn't buy the bike from the EPA. $20,000.00 + for a bike and can't ride it without dumping loads of extra money into it so you can ride without injury is NOT good!

UPDATE

I sold out!

Now have a PCIII, K&N a/c; Rush slip ons.

Fifth gear still irritating but increased power makes it less so (4th gives you more space). Still 50 plus and flat before using it.

Xtra fuel cooled it to very tolerable (hot days) while standing and gone when moving. On cooler days (75-80) barely noticable.

! No surge & no ping ! Went from 38-40 mpg to 33 mpg.

Harley has fixed fifth gear on 08's (Touring only! all others get coffee cans) HD offers $300 fix for 07's (Touring only everyone else...we don't know you!).

I understand (reading other posts) it is old technology employed many years by the metrics but avoided by HD till forced. Save a dollar where they can...

I don't mean to change the subject but I am a new blogger and wanted to see if anyone had any information on an open trailer I could use to haul my Softail down south this winter ,either behind a SUV or pick up? I saw a new trailer at a show in Myrtle Beach last month but can't remember the manufacturer's name and it isn't on this website anywhere. Snake trailers or something like that. Has anyone got any info. I do remember it had an automatic winch and lots of safety features and looked really sharp. I need to take my bike and maybe my boyfriend's (a Road King) down to Florida and we need a vehicle down there too to take our household goods.
Thanks for helping us out,
m
