| I am considering a scooter or simple motorcycle for local riding in a suburban (nearly rural) area and short commutes (15-30 miles each way, 50 if I am feeling really comfortable on whatever I buy and the weather is really good).
My wife and I have one child and are hoping for another. With gas prices being what they are, I am trying to avoid needing to use whatever large, carpool capable family hauler we end up with for commuting and simple errand running.
Things I am considering:
Honda Reflex 2002 (saw one for $3995)
Aprillia Atlantic 2003 (saw one for $3500)
Honda Rebel (have seen for as little as $1800)
Kymco Venox 250 2005 ($2900 or so)
Any suggestions? |

| I'd add to that list the:
Yamaha V-star 250 $3600
Suzuki GZ 250 $3300
and especially the Kawasaki Ninja 250 $3500 (gets 50-60 mpg and is a very fun bike by all accounts)
or used versions of the same. If you are in a rural-ish area, I'd go with the motorcycle instead of the scooter, just on the chance you wind up on higher speed limit roads or eventually decide to go on longer trips.

| While that is a nice bike, it's still a 1982. Low mileage, or not, a 1982 "anything" will be less than likely to give you the consistent overall reliability you need. Stay somewhat current with the year, also choosing one with LOW miles only. There are enough bikes out there from which you can choose, you can afford to be picky and still find the bike YOU want. It's much more of a buyer's market these days than that of the seller. Good luck.
