| | Have you ever rode a motorcycle before? What kind of riding do you intend to do " sport, cruising, touring"? |

| sorry to reply to a 2 month old post, but the best way to learn what bike is for you is to go to the showroom or a motorcycle show and sit on as many different ones as you can. you want your feet to be firmly on the ground, flat if possible, and to be able to comfortably reach the handlebars in a riding position. You want a bike light enough that you can walk it while sitting on it without losing control of it.
Look up the "International Motorcycle Show" to see if its coming to a city near you. It will have practically every new bike under the sun available to sit on. If you can go, go with the idea of taking a good amount of time to try out as many bikes as possible and take notes on what you do and don't like.
try out as much as you can because you will never be truly confident on a bike that you can't control, and will never be truly happy on a bike you aren't confident on.

| | Im a 5'3 woman and I cant comfortably fit on anything but a seat height of 27 inch. I ride a fz6 and a vulcan 900. On the FZ 6 I have the load down to 1 and keep the front break engaged when at a stop (this lowers it another 1/2 inch). I really dont feel completely safe like when Im on the Vulcan though. |

| If you've never really ridden before and are planning to notably alter alter your bike and you are looking for speed, you should also be looking for lots of insurance and a good neurosurgeon. Look for comfort, rideability and confidence building on the first bike, and you might just live long enough to look for speed on the second one. Please don't take offense to this post, I'd just like you not to crash.

| I agree with the last post.
As a new rider myself at 5'1", I started on a used 250 Ninja and put lowering links on it. I loved that bike, but let's face it, it is a turd.
I have since moved up to an SV650S. I love it. Enough power, good ride, and with lowering links it still handles well.
You need to find a bike that you can respect the power and be in control.
It's always better to be safe than to look cool. If looking cool is your first priority by going deathy fast, please go to the track and stay off the roads that I share with you. Good luck in your search. |
