I am having a problem when I flip my differential switch to lock in the front. It makes an electrical grinding type noise and wont engage. What might be causing this.

hey lucky,
well, I am having the same problem.. with all of what you have been having also.. What i did find was that my front wheel transfer case and drive shaft was part of the problem..
There is supposed to be a spring inside either the yoke or the rear part of the front differential. If your shaft is not pushed all the way forward locking into the female part of the transfer case, that is the reason why your front wheels aint working correctly.
Also, the lock cable for all wheels. sometimes that darn thing sticks. So it could be possible it needs some kind of lubrication. I drained my 90 weight and mine was able to move freely again.. Headache in my head never hurt so bad.
Just turn the locking lever unlocking and locking it several times, watch the connection on the transfer case too make sure it is actually working, sliding in and out. It should only throw about a quarter inch or so. not much.. Im not sure what to lube it with yet. ask a famous and popular dealer. lol..
I know its a pain to do all this, But you do have to yank the drivers front wheel, and bottom A arm and calipers and top A arm to move the transfer case.. The transfer case has two main bolts, pull them out and move transfer case forward to take out your drive shaft.. Before you do all of this, look at your driveshaft, and have someone turn the front wheels to see if your shaft is moving, my guess is its not at all, and the splines are not fit correctly into the female end. therefore, your four wheel aint worth a nickel. and neither is mine.
69 cent darn spring, and they forgot to put it in mine..
Mine is still in the basement on jack stands. waiting for part.
good luck. hope this helps some.
