It will help reduce oil temp, but not needed unless you live and ride in a hot climate at low speeds, parade duty, etc

I put HD oil cooler on my 06 FXST. It has thermostat in it, so temp will go up to 160-180 and stay there. If I sit at traffic too long it will go to 200 but come down to normal as soon as I roll. Currently using Royal Purple 20-50 Syn.

I installed one on my 07 Heritage and use mobile one syn v-twin oil, I have noticed a 30 degree temp drop on my daily riding (city traffic and freeway) on long road trips it hold at 210. remember it will only help when your moving and you will have to keep an eye on the hoses for leaks.
