| The DR200 will run about 70 top speed from what I've heard from someone who has one.

| I have a 1997 dr200se; it's identical in performance to yours. I'm 5'10" and about 200 lbs. My bike has stock gearing. On level road it will cruise comfortably at about 55 mph indicated, but speedometers on nearly all bikes are a little optimistic. It is possible that the bike will do an indicated 70 mph but that would be full throttle and probably not good for the bike for very long.
As to the highway, I wouldn't take it on an interstate by choice. It does just fine on secondary roads where rates of speed, and traffic in general, are a little more relaxed. |

| Let's be realistic here...I have a 2007 DR200SE and its cruising speed, stock from the dealership, without over-reving it is 50mph.
At 55-60mph stock, the motor is screaming and certainly not good for it.
Additionally, the bike is VERY light and becomes quite bicycle like at speeds over 50mph, and very touchy.
Sustained speeds above 55mph would be not ideal for this bike, as in highway useage.
You can certainly do 70mph approaching redline, but any bike will keep on accelerating until something breaks, or you do.
Be realistic, be safe. |

| | Forgot to mention, it's only a 5 speed. If you need a little more and want to stay in the same cc range, the Yamaha 6 speed XT225 or similar bike would be a better choice. |
