Ok, this is kind of sad I know. But I am seriously looking into buying a VTX and I think that it has a heel toe shifter on it. Now here's the question. The bike I learned on has a 5 speed, 1 down and 4 up. Now, does the heel toe shifter work like the one I had? I guess toe down and then heel down up to 5? I know it's probably a stupid question, but I don't want to be in total shock if I do get this bike. Thanks.

The shift pattern remains the same. Most of us learned with a front-only shifter, which is why many with cruisers still don't use the heel shifter. I've ridden for MANY years, raced for several, but happen to like and almost always use the heel shifter. It's just a matter of becoming accustomed to always "pushing down" without having to "pull up," but once you do, you will probably also like it as many of us do.

Also, because everything on a bike comes to us as a "one size fits all," you may want to adjust the positioning of the shifter to fit YOU the way YOU want it to fit, which will make it easier to shift, especially when up-shifting with your heel. Depending upon the bike and the way it's set, sometimes raising slightly the heel shifter can make it easier to easily change gears. Be well and stay safe.
