The 400EX is a very capable machine. However it is in a class apart from any 4x4. So in snow, mud, and water bogging, you'll have twice the fun getting to the bog, but half the fun getting stuck. Fortunately your buddies all have 4x4's and they can tow you out - until they get tired of that. I'd go with the type your buddies have, more fun in the long run.
