I have owned a GS500F just over one month now and it is the first time I have been riding in over 22 years. The bike is GREAT around town, very easy to manuvear and I love it at speed under 60MPH, but when I get on the highway it is out right scary. The rear tire does not seem firmly planted and the bike drifts. At speeds of 65-70 it seems unstable. I am not sure if it is me that I am still inexperienced, or this model or my bike. It has 5,000 miles on it but I just changed the front tire anyway. I have been told the rear is ok but who knows. I have noticed that other bikes have wider tires in general. Does this help them on the highways? Is it that this bike is generally a smaller one? I'm 6'1" @ 240lbs so I have weight on the bike. Any info or comments would be appreciated.

I would put this down to issues with your confidence on the bike. Practice pushing the bike a little harder into turns and you'll be surprised! The bike will stay where you put it. I use the general rule of: "If you look ahead and plan where your bike will be on the road (look and focus on where its going to be AFTER the turn) then it will be there". Worrying too much about oil/rain/gravel/etc/etc and focusing on the actual turn will make you feel more nervous. Trust me this bike (combined with you!) will hold the road.

Safe Riding!
