I just bought a used Yamaha XL760 WaveRunner. It only had 60 hours on it and is a 1998. I took it in to get serviced and am still experiencing problems starting it up. Does any one have any suggestions??? It is a great wave runner, when it starts up. Please advise.

Does this have a choke or a primer knob? If it has a choke, pull the choke all the way out and squeeze the accelerator a little bit, about 25%. make sure the fuel is on and let it warm up. I have a 2002 xl700 and if you dont follow this procedure with it it can be a nightmare to start. If it has a primer knob push it down about 3-4 times then try to start. Hope this helps. By the way when you had it in for service did they replace the spark plugs?

We own two XL760's, one being a 98' the other a 99'. Our 98 Has always given us problems starting. The problem has always
seemed to related to getting the fuel to the carbs. I keep as small bottel of mixed gas and oil with me to prime the carbs when it gives me problems (never us starting fluid). The fuel is fed by way of a vacume, so if there is a problem with the fuel filter or lack of compression no fuel will flow.

Very easy, remove thumb screw from air intake.prime with gas and a syringe or use starting fluid. best done on the trailer. after it catches its prime it won't need to be primed again.(that day). I bought mine new in 96. It has over 1200 hrs on it still runs great.

Not enough info to say, I'm afraid. But if a shop cant figure it out, take it somewhere else.

I have a little experience with this machine. Pouring gas in the inlet is not a good idea. Dangerous!! Try pulling the choke out all the way. Opening the throttle all the way. Turn the engine over for about 3-5 seconds and while still turning the engine over release the throttle lever quickly. Usually this will work. If that doesn't work on your machine, try spraying a small amount of carb cleaner in the hole in the top of the air box.
