When I let off the throttle or get on the throttle I hear a squawking or barking noise ( sounds like a small dog or a turkey call ). It is the worse when I am doing about 40 mph in fourth gear. If I rock the throttle back and forth I get a loud squawk -- squawk noise. I think it is coming from the gears. Is this normal?

The squawk is coming from the air being forced in through the air box (like when you wheeze from running too hard, you're forcing the air in). The other sound when you let off the throttle quick, is called engine compression breaking. It is the sound of the engine intself slowing down. a good way to start to slow yourself down :when you let off the throttle GRADUALLY you will feel the bike slowing down and when it almost completely stops growling at you then shift it down to the lower gear. You'll learn exactly when to drop your gear during this (if you drop gear too soon, the rear tire will lock up and scare the mess outta you. But be cool, just pull in the clutch and give it some hand and foot break). Hope i answered your question. Keep 'er shiny side up
