i just bought a vn 900. Is it normal for the bike to backfire? It has done it twice, once after starting it, and once at the light after slowing down from about 70 mph.

Are you in California? If so, then it's normal because emission standards make the dealer set them too lean. ALL new bikes in California will be getting 'worse' and my understanding is this will be nationwide soon. My dealership won't adjust it but said I can buy a Power Commander ($200+) and do it myself. Nice of them to help...

Between this, the bike oscillating at 60 mph, speedometer off by 5 mph, gas gauge wrong (reads empty at 1/2 tank) and accessories on nationwide backorder, I doubt if I'll buy another Kawasaki. I'd sell it if it hadn't depreciated so much in 5 months.

Regards,
Abe.
