| I have owned these two boats since new. Never any problems till last year. One boat quits and would not crank, towed to shore. One hour later, other boat quits, towed to shore. Both would turn over good but not start. Thought bad gas. The short of the long. I oil line came loose at carb. on back cyl. other line came loose at pump. So now I have 2 boats with ruined rear cyls. After contacting a few friends and repair shops I have discovered that I am not the only one this happens to. Most shops around here see a 1200 coming they check compression first no matter what!!!!!
I can buy 2 motors from SBT for $3600.00. This is for a new motor with a 2 year no-fault warranty and all gaskets needed for install. I know a former yamaha mechanic with about 15 years experience to install for $400.00 each. Called yamaha corp. because I was suspicious of this problem. Yamaha offered to cover cost of only the damaged cylinder and piston ONLY if I took it to dealer, I thought ALRIGHT that will save me about a grand, cylinders and pistons for this motor are about $500.00 each boat. I would have to pay for labor or any additional parts. Dealers cost for these motors are 1650.00 each and labor time is 5.4 hours to replace one motor. The dealer called me and quoted me $4500.00 EACH BOAT to replace the motors with SBT units, but yamaha corp. would also chip in 500 each so the final price to replace 2 motors on my boats would be $8000.00 out of my pocket!!!
They quoted me
$2000.00 for a one year waranty motor,
NOT A 2 YEAR warranty motor, 1 year motors are less expensive and don't come with install gaskets.
$300.00 for a injection pump,
$130.00 for gaskets and misc. parts and
$1300.00 labor to replace one motor and
$150.00 for shipping of motor and another
$120.00 for other misc. parts(hoses, clamps, etc.)
I would like any info. you may have or opinions you may have. Thinking of starting class action because of the large number of people I know with same problem but will probably not go that far. Thanks in advance
If my math is correct and I was quoted the right labor time that turns out to be about $300.00 per hour. |
