I am looking HARD at just buying the Aprilia RSV 1000 Factory tri color...

what i need is rider input on the pros/cons of performance characteristics of the Aprilia vs. the Suzuki.

RSV 1000 Factory vs the GSXR 1000

what's the difference riding a two banger vs a 4 cylinder bike?

only ever ridden 4's...

your help is appreciated...

I can't compare the RSV 1000 to the Gixxer, but I had the 07 ZZR-600 before I traded up for the RSV.

From the knowledge I've received I can tell you a few things. First the Gixxer will beat the RSV on a straight away (RSV is 120HP at the wheel, the Gixxer is like 150HP and up). The RSV has instant torque when you pull on the throttle, not like the I4's that take a bit to rev up to speed, so it has the advantage on coming out of corners. Suspension, handling and brakes are hi quality and great on the the RSV, better than stock Inline 4s.

The RSV is more comfortable to ride too, only the Ducati 1098 is a little bit better. The WOW factor is also a plus, people are always looking at my RSV, because you don't see them around.

The two only gripes I have which is a common thing with the RSV is that getting into neutral is annoying at times, because you sometimes have to get to 2nd gear and then downshift to get to it. This is solved by bleeding the lines every couple of thousand miles, but I got used to it, so I don't bother bleeding the lines.

The other is that the gearbox is clunky for the first 1000-1500 miles, but eventually it smooths itself out.

Since I got my Aprilia, I can say that I will never own a jap bike unless I have an Italian bike in my garage. I love my RSV and you will too, I would never get as much looks and compliments as I get now if I was riding a jap bike.

If it's only HP you care about than go for the Gixxer, other than that I would recommend the Aprilia.

its not only horsepower that makes the gixxer higher performance, although that is one of the bigger differences. the frame and overall package if the gixxer is designed to be and is better at overall performance riding. the gixxer should beat the rsv anywhere around any track, this is why it is raced in World Superbike and the rsv is not.(not because of horsepower either, SBK rules allow v-twins to increase displacement to compete with inline 4's, usually to a point of the twins advantage, look at how many championships ducati has won over the years). however, this won't mean much to a person who doesn't get into racing. the rsv is a great bike and would be great for track days, and more than enough performance for any level of sane street riding, but like I said, there's more than just a horsepower difference. Reliability and parts availability are slightly in the suzuki's favor as well, but aprilia is certainly a well established manufacturer, and its not like you're going to spend all summer waiting for repairs.

Also, the comfort of the two bikes is totally subjective. each rider may feel different about the feel of each bike. it is very important to spend some time sitting on, and if possible, riding each of the bike to tell which will be more comfortable, though it is likely the rsv will have a more comfortable seating position. never assume comfort of a bike, because it is different for each rider.

all in all, though, the last post is probably correct that you'll like the rsv better than the gixxer. it is absolutely a much cooler, more distinctive bike, and on the street you will feel like you're getting more out of it than you would with the gixxer. you can't really safely push a bike like the gixxer on the street, feeling like you're using most or all of its capability, but the rsv will feel more like you're really riding it hard, and still be relatively safe, (compared with a 1000cc inline 4 race replica).

I'd go with whichever bike you feel the most comfortable on, physically and riding ability wise. if you're uncomfortable on a bike, eventually that will become all you notice. it won't matter how many girls turn their head when you go by, and you can't see what your bike looks like when you're riding it anyway. of course more of those head will be turned by the rsv, and you may well like riding it better anyway.
