If you plan on overnights with some 2-up distance riding, you can't go wrong with the Nomad.
I have a 2006 1600 Nomad that I named Excaliber.

Hey Mustang.

If you want some really great info on the Kaw, you should check out:

http://forums.delphiforums.com/kawvulcan

There are >800,000 threads shared on these cruisers on ever topic under the sun. They really are great cruisers and a great value. It's a lot of bike for the money spent. They're a little heavy & not so nimble at low speeds, but are very nicely designed and are just terrific on the open road. The 1600 Nomad is most definitely worth the look.

As you also seem to be doing, I did research on top of research before I finally bought my new bike. The Nomad was my choice until the very end, when I finally went with the new Yamaha V Star 1300 Tourer. While it's also terrific on the road, it's excellent slower speed handling made the difference for me since I live here in Key West and do a lot of riding up and down the Florida Keys. The 2 bikes aren't that much different in price, so that wasn't a factor. I honestly believe I'd still be 100% happy today if my choice had been reversed. The Vulcan is a great bike. Make sure they give you a good deal, as most dealers today will. Good luck.

I forgot to mention....at the Delphi Forum site, you'll need to sign up and register with them, but it's free and harmless. Just be sure to make your "sign-in" name whatever you want others to see - Mustang, etc.
