| | being air cooled means the engine cools down from the air moving around it, distance traveled shouldnt limit it, the only thing is slow traveling and high revs is not good for your engine. in busy traffic or something swith gears at 4 or 5 rpms. |

| Air cooled motor..think about this..I own a briggs and stratton powered lawn mower..Air cooled..I push it around my yard at 1 to 2 mph when it is 100 degrees here in Texas..It is 16 years old.It runs wide open or close to it every time I mow..NO MECHANICAL FAILURES..There is nothing wrong with and air cooled engine.. it is designed to work how it does..The fins on the motor and the oil inside help to disipate the heat and keep the motor within its normal temp range. Actually water cooled motors have more things that can go wrong with them and do. The gs 500 is a great bike. I would not hesitate to travel on the interstate with one.
I got a honda trail 70 when I was 6..the first couple of years my dad told me not to go over 20 mph..YA KNOW.. he wanted me not to get killed. That little motor was air cooled and ran around 10 to 15 mph in the field beside my parents house.. I kept that bile until I was 23..I had other bikes too..BUT..NEVER did that little bike need any motor damage repaired. ALL harleys until the v rod have been air cooled...DO NOT WORRY ABOUT an air cooled motor..like the previous post said. It is not a good idea to set in traffic and rev the motor..as long as you are moving.. the bike should do just fine..
