Hello again ARG,

At your size, I wouldn't worry about the ride too much. The suspension may feel slightly mushy, but probably not too bad, and for a new rider, thats all right anyway. It will absorb some of the small errors you'll make as you gain experience.

I looked, and it looks like the only adjustability to the suspension is spring preload in the rear. This means that if the back of the bike feels like it moves up and down too easily, you can stiffen it up for a more concise feel. Ways you are most likely to feel this are the rear squatting under acceleration and while in turns. I wouldn't worry about it until you've gotten the feel for the bike and some miles of experience. Your feel and control of the bike is far more important than the suspension settings until you get to the level of track days, racing, or street riding at a very aggressive (and likely dangerous) pace.

Short answer, the suspension should be fine, its designed to be very good for a wide range of rider size. The overall ergonomics of the GS are also designed to be pretty comfortable, while still allowing for sporty riding.

suzuki is also coming out with a new gsx 650 f, next year. this appears to basically be a Katana 650, and may be a good first choice as well. The 750 would maybe be pushing it power wise for a new rider.

As nice as it would be to buy one bike and have it be great for a beginner, intermediate, experienced, and racetrack ready rider, it just isn't that realistic. Most of the experienced riders I know say, and I agree that every new rider should have at least a 2 bike plan. A starter bike that has some room to grow on, that shouldn't be too aggressive. Then a long term bike to settle on after a few years experience and when you've figured out what your riding styles and goals are. If you try to buy a first bike with the idea that its going to be the one for all time, its like getting married on a first date.
