| I'm looking at the Dyna and also the Yamaha Vstar 1100. I'm 58 and returning to biking after quite a few years. I've heard good comments about both bikes but really like the Dyna. Would like to know what you guys are actually getting the Dyna for. Is MSRP a reality or is the price much higher? Thanks for any info. Bob

| Bob,
I read your posted question on the Powersports web site in reference to the Harley FXD. Here is my personal view.
I just purchased a 2003 Harley Davidson FXD (Dyna Super Glide). It was the only model that I was truly interested in, due to the fact that the Sportster was too small, the Road King is too big for me ( I'm 5'6) and everyone and their brother has a Softail. I shopped around from dealer to dealer and the prices varied. I paid $ 15,800 (no extras). Here in South Florida, we have one of the biggest motorcycle markets due to our all year round "riding weather." I noticed that the HD dealers here like to price gouge by adding extras which are installed on the bike in the showroom. Some dealers here absolutely refuse to sell a plain bike. By buying my bike from an independent dealer, rather than a franchise dealer, I saved about $ 3000. I have already installed $ 1000 worth of chrome myself, which would have cost about $ 3000- $ 5000 from Harley, had I bought the bike at one of their dealers. I truly love the bike, the way it handles, EVERYTHING!!!
As far as a Yamaha V-star, it may look like a Harley, but it is not. Period.
Good luck to you!
Doug

| Bob, As you have probably found out, prices for new Harley's can be all over the place. You just have to shop around. I went to 3 different dealers everyone would sell at MSRP + $400-$650 setup + freight if you were willing to wait. Wait times ranged from 3 months to 9 months. Bikes on the showroom floor were marked up quite a bit more. I got a brand new black 2003 Anniversary FXD for $12,990 (This included Freight and Dealer Setup) with a 3 month wait. As far as the Yamaha V-Star, great looking bike, quite a bit cheaper, but you get what you pay for. You won't regret paying the extra dough for the Harley once you ride one and compare.

| I, too, returned to riding a few years ago and have through 3 metrics. My wife suggested I go ahead and get an ElectraGlide Standard, since I was disappointed by the poor engineering of the clones. I am here to tell you that if you are weighing between a Ymaha and a Harley, you will not be satisfied with that Yamaha (besides, wait until you do that first oil change, what dumbness). BTW do yourself a favor and take a MSF riding course before you return to motorcycling, think about having your significant other join you.

| The price I paid for my 2003 Dyna superglide is $13,200. The dealership wanted 14,100 but a little talking dropped it right down.

| Johnny Long here - 13 June. Shopping for an 100th Anniversary FXD (stock). Ray Price HD in Raleigh, NC has a blue one. Their quote? "Right now we have a Gunmetal Blue Dyna Superglide priced at $15,515 plus tax, tags, and doc fees." AWFUL. Can anybody out there steer me to one for LESS? THANKS! JWL

| | Quick answer...look at kellybluebook.com and compare the Harley and the Yamaha...or better yet check out e-bay motors and see what they are getting for Harley and Yamaha...You'll make out much better on the Harley, and the satisfaction will TRIPLE!!!...I've had both, and will never go back to a metric! |

| | I just ordered a 2004 fxd and paid $13,220 which included tax-title and license. You won't regret going with the FXD. |
