I am a new rider and leaning towards the purchase of a Harley. A friend recommended a BMW for the money but I can't bring myself to buy an un-American product. Of course, being to say I own a Harley has it's attraction as well.

I am 5'10", 230 pounds, never ridden a bike before. Any suggestions if I buy a Harley of which one to go with. I'm leaning towards a Fatboy or a Dyna Super Glide sport, but open to suggestions. I don't want more bike than I can handle as a new rider. Thanks for your time.

Wayne,
I suggest that you take a motorcycle riding course, to get some skills before buying anything. I ride a Sportster 1200C and it is plenty of bike. The models you mention weigh at least 100 pounds more than a sporty, if you have to have a HD, start with a used bike and see if you really like the sport, before you spend $15000 + - on a new machine.

I agree with wayne. Get a small used bike (plenty of saftey gear) and learn to ride first. Almost everyone dumps the bike a few times (or more) when they learn to ride. Starting with a big heavy bike is like a beginner pilot trying to learn to fly in a Boeing 747.

Thank you for being smart enough to recognize a real motorcycle. For your size the Fatboy might fit you better, but good dealers have test ride programs so you can check it out. If your dealer won't let you test ride, go to one that will. Harley has a great website that will help you out.
