The Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI gets about 30 HP. On a level road, it will hit 50 mph with no problem, much faster than I'd ever want to go for any length of time.
IMHO, the Sportsman 500 EFI is a too smooth. I call mine "the cadallac". If you want to get from anywhere to anywhere else, this machine is great. It will go over any terrain, best clearance (11.5") of any ATV, incredible suspension, very comfortable. No way to overturn it. No fun. You aren't riding it, you're just travelling, like in a Cadallac. My friend bought a Suzuki KQ700 and was jealous of my Sportsman for the comfort and clearance. He quickly put a lift kit on his, but then it was just top heavy.

Now the Polaris Trailboss 330 is a ride. I call mine "the demon". That's because you have to RIDE that thing or it will throw you off. Hard suspension, very light, much narrower than the Sportsman, so it will (and has) overturned. It takes skill to ride, but boy is it fun. My brother was riding the Cadallac for about 10 miles over a pretty rough trail (his first ride). We switched so he was on the demon and he didn't get over the first set of bumps before he lost his footing and was thrown over the handlebars (luckily into a very rare stretch of sand). Actually, the demon has been in 4 accidents with 3 different riders, none of them involving other vehicles (and none with me on it :hehe. It's a challenge to ride.

I have not ridden the bigger Sportsman's, but I can't imagine needing more power. 50 MPH is plenty of speed. Do you really want to go faster on a quad? Seems any bigger is a waste of money and gas. My next quad is either another Trailboss, or perhaps the new Outlaw 525!

I've had mine up to 70 with no problem. I could've gone faster, but my balls were too far up my gut to go much faster.

60 is a great speed for open gravel roads. I can attest to the "Cadillac" comment by the other poster - greatest ride I've ever had.

Now if I just want to get out there and beat the hell out of something, I "borrow" my wife's Outlaw 500. That's an awesome ride, too.
