I'm 16 and I plan on talking a motorcycle training class soon and then getting my first bike probably my senior year.
I'm looking at either the 500R or 650R
I like that the 500 is cheaper and is a great beginner bike, but it simply does not look good to me. The 650 is a little more expensive, and it looks great, but is it as forgiving to beginners as the 500R?

So I want your opinions. Which is a better semi-beginner bike?
Should I sacrifce the extra money to get a 650?
Is the 650 as forgiving as the 500?

Also, do you think the market will change a lot in the next 1-2 years or so when I will actually be buying the bike?

Thanks

The 500 is a safer bike to start out on, but in the right hands, the 650 could still be OK. Take the MSF class, or other professional instruction, and plan on taking it very easy to start with. As for the market on these bikes, it doesn't change very quickly on the more standard bike like these. They don't get re-designed too often, and the price stays similar accordingly. At your age, the smartest thing would be the 500, but if you really plan on going about it the intelligently, the 650 will likely be all right too.
