I have a 2006 1200 sportster. I have a 4.5 gallon gas tank and averaging about 100 miles/tank on it..!

Is this normal?! Seems unbelievably low to me!

I've just had my first servicing done.

Do let me know.
Thanks!

Faizaan

I have the same bike and have the same problem. Although I have 1100 miles now and I average 140mpg. This is still no good. Also it misses quite often.

No this is not normal. You should be getting around 200 miles per tank or more. Are you filling the tank to the top? Are you useing the reserve tank? There is no way you are going through 4.5 gallons in 100 miles unless something is very wrong. I just put in 2.26 gallons after 104 miles. Also go to xlforum.net to get all your sportster questions answered.

It's a little low. At 30 MPH a full 4.5 gallons will get you 135 miles. However, not many people allow their tank to go bone dry, inclusing the reserve. So 100 miles is not that bad, if you are not draining the tank completely

What are your riding habits. Are you high-revving? If so, you are not doing bad.

No, this is not a good milage for your sportster. I have an 06 1200 and average between 160 and 180 per tank. Even if your riding hard it should'nt be that low.

I've got a Roadster 1200. SE2'd, and the peanut tank. On long trips I get about 120 miles on about 3+ gals. You should be getting more, I think. Take to a HD shop and tell them about it.
