| I just got a Monster 620ie - wow what a bike. I've ridden dirt bikes all my life (I'm 57) and I LOVE the Ducati. The handling is superb. I would never consider another another. dont make a mistake - get the Ducati!!! The Ducati is very easy to ride. A great first bike!

| You'll outgrow the 620 in no time. I bought a 750 for my first bike and have been very pleased. The Monster is a docile ,forgiving bike with great looks and PLENTY of power for a new rider.

| I have been riding for 29 years and was looking at the sv650s and a 750 monster
I rode both bikes and the sv transmission sucks.
The insurance (for me) was over $100 bucks cheeper a year on the Duc.My local dealer has a couple left over 1999,2000,2001's in stock, well the 2000 I just bought so now it's gone.
Got the yellow Duc 750 (new) for the same price as the SV. I'm sure you got one already so what ever you decided good luck with it and ride safe.
I am also a motorcycle safety instructor
and have seen no real maintence issues with anything except (sorry in advance)Harleys. |

| You probably already bought your bike by now, but here is my opinion....Not to brag but I own both of these bikes. I bought the 620 Dark for myself and the SV650S for my wife. Her bike is faster, but does not sound as good. Her bike has more ground clearance, and in my opinion is more comfortable. With that said, I love the Duc. It is such a cool bike and it really gets the attention of others. Both are great bikes and I am lucky that I can ride either whenever I want, but if I could only choose one I would take the Duc. Mind you, I am the guy who bought a Audi A4 over a Volkswagen Jetta, I love the cool factor, so decide for yourself what is important. Both are cool bikes. Also, the Duc will sell for more when I upgrade.

| This is SO after the fact, but I had to pipe up.
I agree with Clint in every way (even own an A4), though my situation's a bit different -- I'm the wife, and I own the Duc. My husband rides a Daytona 955i, too rich (and fast) for my blood at this point in my riding career. But even though I can't touch him off the line or in the straights, I can maintain a respectable distance in the twisties. And my bike sounds WAY better than his, despite his Two Brothers exhaust and my stock cans. Just wait until I get my Termingnonis... |

| whats up DeWayne. I as well looked into the sv560 and the ducati 620ie monster. I am curently looking for a second bike, but have only been riding for about 3 months. so i am a farely new rider as well. I compared prices between the two and they were somewhat similar. The only way the Ducati would end up costing you more is with maintenence. When it is time for a service on a ducati it's gunna end up costing more than the sv650. But if you look at it this way, the Ducati is European and they are known for reliability. I mean to me the Ducati is the ferrari of all bikes in my opinion. They are very similar in weight, but if u want a heigher top speed the ducati is not the bike for you. If you are looking for an all around nice bike the Ducati is what you are looking for. It handles well and looks awsome. It also has a top speed of about 120 which is fast enough for me. All japanese bikes sound the same, but if your looking for something unique in sound, performance, and looks just choose the Ducati. The Ducati is definitlly an overall nicer bike!

| This is DeWayne, I know that it has been a while. but, I want to thank everyone for their posts I have read them all. I have decided the best bike for me is the......MONSTER. I just can't part with the looks and the style. I am under the Ducati Monster spell. I know that the insurance and the maintenance will be higher but there is just something about that bike. I haven't purchased one as of yet but, the feel of it when I have set on one, nothing compares, It feels like slipping on a fine leather glove or jacket.
But thanks to all the replies.

| Hi matey
I have a 620ie and my buddy has an SV650
I guess I am biased but theres no comparison in my opinion
The Monster is far easier to handle, better cornering and, come on, its a Ducati.
The SV650 has a better top end and a bit more protection but for sheer street cred its gotta be the Monster
In the UK anyway
Good luck and come and join the Ducatisti
