| Stop and go traffic in the south the water cooled is superior. With air cooled the temperature rises when stopped due to limited air flow. Water cooled is like you car and has a fan and thermostat to keep the temperature constant regardless of speed. If you must have air cooled an oil cooler is a must. You can get by with air cooled by testiment of Harley Davidsons, Yamaha, and suzuki air cooled cruisers. I have a 2003 Suzuki LC1500 air cooled with no problems but Michigan cool.

| Without a doubt a liquid-cooled engine will perform better, longer and with less wear & tear than a comparable air-cooled engine under stop & go conditions. How many cars & trucks stuck in stop & go traffic would survive if their engines were only cooled by air?
The new VW Beetles are now liquid-cooled as is most everything that has to survive in this environment. Motorcycle manufacturers including Harley Davidson, will eventually have to liquid-cool their entire range of bikes if they are to survive leaner running enviromentaly cleaner burning engines while developing the horsepower people want. There are just a plenthora of reasons why air-cooling is less effcient and problematical but trust me in this, buy a liquid-cooled bike, it will outlast its air-cooled counterpart all things else being equal.
