I there. I am ready to buy a bike and I find myself in a real dilema. After checking out he market, I narrowed my options to two: this BMW R1150R and the Honda 919. I know they have different styles but man, I love both. From what I heard, both handle great, are smooth and have plenty of power (what I don;t really need anyways). The Honda llok appeals me the more, the comfy of the BMW too... Two great bikes with different styles... Can anybody throw some light to brake the balance towards one of them? Thanks.

BMW has 3 year warranty, better resale value, more available accessories, more exclusive than a Japanese 4cyl, but higher maint costs. Go for BMW, in a couple of years the Honda will just be another old UJM, but the Beemer will have some value.

The Beemer will be in top form long after the Honda is parked behind the barn. If you are interested in quality go with the Beemer

My R1150R is fantastic FUN. As a very long term biker and "big twin" rider I have always prefered the "character" of European bikes. Honda is nice when new, but I was moved to buy the BMW - it makes a statement. I just wish I'd bought ABS.

You are looking at two completely unique motorcycles. One is a late comer to the naked bike party 919 while the R1150R is one of the most technically advanced bikes on the market especially considering the price. The BMW has a 3 yr or 36,000 mile warranty. Good luck

Both good machines in function. I've had both Hondas and BMW's - both are stone reliable. The 919 is quicker in straight ahead speed (1/4 mile in 11 sec.). The Beemer has much better suspension, warrenty, brakes, resale value, and flexability. Flexability means allot - you want to tour - buy some BMW bags, windscreen and go to the horizon. you want to Sport-ride - put on a pipe, chip, cams - and go like hell. The 919 has limited after-market support - and because of the pipes - bags are hard to find / fit. Passengers (women) will be MUCH more comfortable on the beemer and more impressed. also check out the 1150 Rockster - if you want a more sporting look / feel. I bought a R1150RS and sold my 996Superhawk. The BMW's offer all the speed you need for the street!
Both bikes will ride just fine - but you will not want a new bike in 1 year if you go with the 1150R. Ride hard - ride long

The BMW is a solid choice - don't know much about the Honda though. If you want the REAL competition for the R1150R check out the D-Strom! Everyone that rides it, loves it. Sit on both of them.

The 1150R is great for around town, or with an aftermarket windscreen and handlebar covers, all-weather tour machine. Both of which can be removed seasonally. I have an 1150R and 1150RT, have owned Triumph, Suziki, Yamaha and Honda. The beemer earns a little more respect on the road it seems, with the rash of bad sport-bike experiences by cars/trucks. I rode this bike w/ my wife (two-up) in San Diego with sport bikes and never had a problem keeping up (middle of the pack). There is a little engine torquing on accelleration, but now problem with rear wheel torquing in corners (don't ride it that hard). Great bike!
