| I am interested in buying a Kawasaki Ultra 150. I can't afford to buy brand new so I am looking at either a 2002 or 2003. I would love to hear some feedback on the performance of these 2. As well as problems. Thanks

| | Look for the 1999 model ultra 150, it is the only model that doesnt have the retricter on it and you can do a ton more with the 99' computer. My top end speed is 74 mph's |

| The only difference in the '99 is that it has special spark plugs that cost around $15 each. '00 and up are only about $2 ea. 2cycles go through plugs like crazy too! The top speed on '99s is no better than '00 and up. It supposedly has maybe a little better acceleration though. The timing/fuel mapping is a bit accelerated on the '99s which makes them more prone to deto and allows not as many motor mods down the road. With a '00 up, you can put 42cc heads on it to increase compression. With the '99, you could only add 44cc domes (less compression) because the '99s are already boarderline deto motors. Don't listen to everybody. Top speed of the Ultra (even a '99 model) in stock form is usually only 62-66mph max. You can never go by the stock speedometer because it will give false readings. For true speed, test with a gps or radar gun.
With about $1,000-1,500 in mods, you can get them to 70. With about $6,000 in mods (triple pipes), you can get them to 74+.
If you ever look into getting mods, call Skiworx Watercraft Performance or skiworx.com or go to Ultra150.com and then go to the message board! |
