| | I recently test drove a new Burgman 400. I like the scooter very much but.... I have a problem with the one I rode. When you take off on it the clutch dosen't kick in until the revs are at 3000 RPM. This is very hard to deal with. I drove a 650 (2003 ) and the clutch kicks in at about 1800 to 2000 RPM. My question is, is it normal for the 400's clutch to kick in at 3000 RPM's or is there a problem somewhere? Thank you, Martin Quinn |

| What you experienced is normal. It is because of the differences in the type of clutch and transmission between the 400 and the 650. You will notice the same thing on the Silver Wing and Majesty as on the Burgman 400 because they have a centrifugal clutch. The Burgman 650 feels more like a regular motorcycle and doesn't have to rev up much before the clutch starts to engage. I have owned a Silve Wing and a Burgman 650 and have also ridden the Burgman 400. I prefer the Burgman 650 to all of the others.

| Mine kicks in at about 2500. It can be adjusted says the dealer but not a lot.

| Yes this is normal... There are after maket variator (Malossi 2000)kits that can be installed that change that... I'm in the states so its hard for me to find performance parts of the such...

| 3k rpm is standard for the 400. I've had mine for almost 2 years now and didn't even think about it handling any differently until you said something. At 3k rpm I find the take off to be smooth and very well controlled!
