Hi! I'm considering buying a Burgman 650
and I was wondering how well (or not)
it handles things like loose gravel,
railroad tracks,steep grades and gusty
winds. I'm also curious if anyone has
had any serious or on-going mechanical
problems. Thank you.

After a year and 6500 miles I still think the B650 is the way of the future on two wheels...the early models had a clutch recall but other than that I have only had the routine 4000 mile service by the dealer...I added a passenger back rest and had the rider backrest custom formed for me and added a wider taller windshield...I could suggest some design improvements like a longer rake angle for less pitching and softer front shocks but that is about all...I am waiting for someone to stick a four cylinder sport engine in this type or frame...wow...

Any 2 wheeler must be respected on gravel and unpaved surfaces...the B650 rivals the biggest tourers in wind and hillsides...the only mechanical problem among early imports was a factory recall on the clutch...I have 6500 trouble free miles...but did have to replace a headlight bulb...

I have 2200 miles on mine. I go very slowly and in a straight line with mine in stones and with my feet out and just above the ground. I find RR tracks to be ok along with cattle guards. I do try to hit them at a 90* angle. Steep grades are no worse than any other bike with 54 hp. In other words no problem. With a low center of gravity gusty winds affect me but not the bike. The bike tracks very smoothly in the wind in the mountain passes here.

I took mine to the beach this weekend and encountered all the above plus heavy rain. The Burgman performed exceptionally well giving me control and stability and confidence on each of the above plus timber trucks! I have only had the bike a little while and cannot comment on on-going mechanical problems. My previous bike was a Honda 500 motorcycle. I think the Burgman out performs that bike and adds comfort and smooth ride. My only complaints are hard shocks, and strong compression braking.
