My friend told me about Buell's new line up of bikes for 03, Im a fairly new rider and I was looking for something along the lines of the Lightning XB9S, I really like this bike and Im sure its the one that Im gonna get, however since it is fairly new I was wondering if I should wait for the 04 or maybe even the 05 Line to come out, just in case there are some things that need to be taken care of before I spend 10,600 on a new bike, If anyone could give me there 2 cents about this bike, and how they like or dislike it, I would be very grateful. Thanks

Vin

I own an sv650s and am a new rider. I have ridden a friends xb and sportster.

Likes: Power, handling, dynamics, ergonomics, comfortable riding position. Harley-esque sturdiness.

Dislikes: Styling of the bike is a little extreme, bike looks a little small. Vibrations aren't bad but are annoying to me in stop and go... I'm sure you'd get used to it, but I don't like not being able to use the mirrors at certain engine speeds. Better hope your passenger doesn't have a big arse cause the pillion seat is laughable. Rear brake sucks... apparently that's a Buell thing.

I like the bike, but would probably get a bike with clip ons.

I own a 03 Lightning and I got to tell you the 207 Dunlops tires are real poor. The bike can't go over tar snakes without sliding sideways. If I can't get stickier tires I'm selling the bike. Anyone else experience this problem with and 03 Lightning?

The 04's are out and well worth a look. Same great bike with now has a bigger sibbling. There are a few minor tweaks to the 03 (to incl. a 24 month warranty vs the old 12 month). I'd go for it. Plus, you should be able to find the 03's at bargain prices now. I've seen a few in the $7500 price range on cycletrader.com. Go to the Buell website and look at the new msrp.

04 has a better warranty(2years unlimited miles). Beull?Harley has done alot of refining on the XB9S. Not sure about the 12. !2 has a longer stroke, can't rev as hard, or quick. From many people I have spoken to that ran a 9 and 12, they think the 9 is more responsive and fun because of the rev factor. Buy a XB9 for $9195, spend $650 on the race kit, and have better fuel economy, performance and spend the other $1k on good gear.
